Qemu Linux
(Entry Nr. 285, by user 1 | edit)
1) apt-get install qemu
This will install Qemu :)

2) Update to qemu0.9 or higher.
At least this was necessary under Ubuntu 7. I did it like this:
2a) Download the binary from here: http://fabrice.bellard.free.fr/qemu/download.html
2b) Untar it (but not in / as they say !)
2c) copy all files from "usr/local/bin/" to "/usr/bin"
2d) copy all files from "usr/local/share/qemu/" to "/usr/share/qemu/" (not quite sure about this one)

3) qemu-img create qemu.img 4G -f qcow2
This will create a partition that automatically grows and can store snapshots.
(Maybe you need to chmod this a bit. Not sure)

4) qemu -cdrom /dev/cdrom -boot d qemu.img
Or if you want to boot from an iso: qemu -cdrom somefile.iso -boot d qemu.img

5) Have fun!

(If you get trapped in the Qemu window, press CTRL+ALT and you will be set free again)
